The Research Institute and Sustainable Social Development (NDESS) of the University of Cadiz, based in Jerez, was established in 2010 with the aim of establishing a specialised offer of scientific-technical services to influence local development, but with the aim of extending its services to the national and international community. It can be defined as a higher structure, aimed at research, training and the transfer and dissemination of results to society, capable of developing different lines of work and projects of an interdisciplinary nature to respond to the challenges of 21st century society.
The Institute develops priority lines of research within the framework of the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals: the areas of Society and Territory, Society and Communication, and Society and Well-being.
Social Laboratory COEDPA (LABCOEDPA)
In 2019, the Social Laboratory COEDPA (LABCOEDPA) was created, an experimental space where different lines of research on the idea of more resilient and safer societies against the effects of climate change and the increase in natural disasters are worked on, through tools such as Communication-Education-Participation from an eco-social approach. Since its constitution, the Blue and Safe Tourism line has been promoted and the Zero Risk 2030 application has been worked on jointly with the developer Manuel Escobar, the participation of the team of external collaborating researchers and the entities associated with the Social Laboratories (IERD, APATO and CSIF-Cádiz).
