He holds a degree in Philosophy and Arts from the University of Cadiz. Since 1995, he has been involved in emergency management, studying at the National School of Civil Protection, the Andalusian School of Public Safety and the Emergency Management Institute of the US Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). Specialist and Master’s Degree in Civil Protection and Emergencies from the University of Valencia. Expert in natural and technological disasters. Author of numerous articles published in scientific journals and the media, he currently works as a training coordinator for the 112 emergency services and he is a president of the Spanish Institute for Disaster Reduction.

The relationship of the Spanish Institute for Disaster Reduction (IERD) with Blue and Safe Tourism lies in the very mission of this independent non-governmental professional organisation focused on the research and dissemination of any potentially catastrophic events and contributing to the design of strategies to achieve the highest levels of resilience of the population and its physical environment against the impact of these risks.
Mercedes Amézaga López
Occupational therapist
Her professional experience is centred on the Day Centre for Alzheimer’s patients, Elderly Residence and in the University Hospital of Puerto Real in the Mental Health UGC, Therapeutic Community, Mental Health Rehabilitation Unit and in the Assertive Community Treatment Team. Responsible for the Equality, Social Action and Social Responsibility Secretariats of the CSIF Union in UP CÁDIZ.

CSIF’s relationship with Blue and Safe Tourism is based on the defence of workers’ labour rights and the promotion of occupational risk prevention in all sectors, including tourism, and in particular among the professionals most vulnerable to the effects of climate change: State security forces, fire brigades, emergency services, forestry agents,professionals of beach assistance, etc., who will have to face increasingly frequent extreme weather phenomena, preventing them from damaging the working conditions of the workforce.

The relationship of the Andalusian Professional Association of Occupational Therapists with Blue and Safe Tourism is to be found in the organisation’s own mission both in the task of identifying barriers or limitations that prevent accessibility and in promoting the occupation of people with different diagnoses or types of functional diversity because their participation in tourism-related activities in coastal environments depends on multiple factors (physical, social and/or political).
